If there is one thing above all other that makes Cortijo Opazo special and different to anywhere else you might stay, then it is the garden.

Arranged along three sections of terraced land this green oasis will enchant and delight you.  Made up of a number of distinctive areas you will be transported from the formality of an Islamic style garden to a pastiche of an English country garden, to the wilds of a terrace planted in a loose prairie style, to the fascination of a wildlife and dry garden.  Amongst these areas are flowers to gladden you and vegetables and fruit to nourish you.  A daily stroll around the garden is one of the memorable pleasures of a stay at Cortijo Opazo.  Our guests are encouraged to find their own special corner for reading, sitting and quiet contemplation. 

Si hay algo que hace que el Cortijo Opazo sea especial y diferente a cualquier otro lugar en el que pueda alojarse, es su jardín.

Dispuesto a lo largo de tres tramos de terreno abancalado, este oasis verde le encantará y deleitará.  Compuesto por una serie de áreas distintivas, le transportará desde la formalidad de un jardín de estilo islámico a un pastiche de un jardín campestre inglés, a la naturaleza salvaje de una terraza plantada en un estilo de pradera suelta, a la fascinación de un jardín seco y silvestre.  Entre estas zonas hay flores para alegrarse y verduras y frutas para alimentarse.  Un paseo diario por el jardín es uno de los placeres memorables de una estancia en el Cortijo Opazo.  Animamos a nuestros huéspedes a encontrar su propio rincón especial para leer, sentarse y contemplar en silencio. 

The Mediterranean shores of Andalucia are backed by an impressive range of mountains, the most prominent of which are the Sierra Nevada.  On the southern slopes of these mighty summits can be found the enchanting region known as The Alpujarras, where cultivation on ancient irrigated terraces has been an unchanging way of life for centuries. It is on these terraced slopes that you can find the garden project 'Jardín Alpujarra'. This initiative embraces the challenges of gardening at high altitude (1250 metres above sea level) along with the distinctly contrasting seasons that can be found here, it seeks to create a controlled landscape with a wide and varied flora, using both native and ornamental species that can adapt to the conditions.

The garden is laid out over 8,000 square metres of land and is divided up into specific and contrasting areas or garden rooms.  These range from formal areas close to the main house that are bordered with clipped hedges of box, pyrocantha and olive, to areas of loosely structured serpentine planting with the accent on drought tolerant plants; from a range of ornamental trees and shrubs to a wildlife mountainside garden stocked with native spieces.  Within the garden there is a vegetable plot that includes vaious fruit trees. Other areas are planted with gorgeous flowering perennials and grasses that change with every season.  There are also a number of eccentric moments to delight a garden visitor.

Las costas mediterráneas de Andalucía están respaldadas por una impresionante cadena montañosa, la más prominente de las cuales es Sierra Nevada.  En la ladera sur de estas poderosas cumbres se encuentra la encantadora región conocida como Las Alpujarras, donde el cultivo en antiguas terrazas de regadío ha sido un modo de vida inalterable durante siglos. Es en estas laderas abancaladas donde se encuentra el proyecto de jardinería «Jardín Alpujarra». Esta iniciativa, que asume los retos de la jardinería en altura (1250 metros sobre el nivel del mar) y los contrastes estacionales que aquí se dan, pretende crear un paisaje controlado con una flora amplia y variada, utilizando especies autóctonas y ornamentales que se adapten a las condiciones.

El jardín se extiende a lo largo de 8.000 metros cuadrados de terreno y está dividido en zonas específicas y contrastadas o salas de jardín.  Desde las zonas formales próximas a la casa principal, delimitadas por setos recortados de boj, pirocantha y olivo, hasta las zonas de plantación serpentina de estructura suelta, en las que predominan las plantas resistentes a la sequía; desde una gama de árboles y arbustos ornamentales hasta un jardín de montaña con especies silvestres autóctonas.  Dentro del jardín hay un huerto con varios árboles frutales. Otras zonas están plantadas con hermosas plantas perennes en flor y gramíneas que cambian con cada estación.  También hay una serie de momentos excéntricos que harán las delicias del visitante del jardín.
